Maple Almond Granola

My love for granola has been a progression of sorts, first finding out most store granolas contained high amounts of fat and sugar. Then when I found a healthy granola , was not pleased with the price for the amount purchased. So I decided to do my own and very pleased with the outcome. Not to mention a great way to get the health benefits of Cinnamon, oats and almond.

Preheat oven to 250.

  • 2 cups of oats – not quick oats
  • 1 cup of wheat germ
  • 1 cup of sliced almonds
  • 1 tsp of sea salt
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of maple syrup -I like Spring Tree brand
  • 3 tbsp of canola oil
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 1 tbsp of cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp of vanilla

In a bowl combine dry ingredients – oats , wheat germ, almonds. Next in a sauce pan on medium heat add maple syrup, water, canola oil, brown sugar, cinnamon, water, salt and vanilla – mix well. Now add wet mix to dry and using spatula at first start to mix -I then use my hands to mix and coat well. On a sheet tray spread out mix – I like to leave clumps for clusters. Bake for 40 minutes and then toss / turn and bake for another 25 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Now if you want you can add dried fruit if desire.
